About NMU Chi Alpha
Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship at Northern Michigan University is a community on mission with Jesus.
- Community: Our vision is to share life with each other, not merely to attend a meeting together once a week. The Bible refers to followers of Jesus as children of God and as brothers and sisters, and we try to live life together as the family of God.
- On mission: Our purpose on campus and in the world comes from Jesus: “As the Father has sent me, now I send you.” We have the privilege of carrying His message of life and hope.
- With Jesus: Our model is Jesus. His example teaches us how to live, and His Spirit gives us the ability to live and serve as He did.
NMU Chi Alpha is an affiliate of Chi Alpha Campus Ministries, U.S.A. Chi Alpha is sponsored by the Assemblies of God, but welcomes students from all backgrounds. The 300-plus Chi Alpha chapters in the United States adhere to the same mission statement: “We reconcile students to Christ, equipping them through Spirit-filled communities of prayer, worship, fellowship, discipleship, and mission to transform the university, the marketplace, and the world.”
Our name is made up of two Greek letters, chi (X) and alpha (A). These initials come from a phrase in the Bible—christou apostoloi—that is translated as “Christ’s sent ones” or “Christ’s ambassadors.” Our name is a reminder of who we are—and whose we are.
We subscribe to the Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God. If you don’t have time to read them now, we can summarize these beliefs in everyday language:
God is real. God has revealed Himself in Jesus. The Bible is God’s word. God is still active in the world today. God deserves the primary position in every person’s life.
